RealLinks - Data Communication PDF Print E-mail
RealLinksAs a leading supplier of middleware and a company involved with the implementation of EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) standards, Reality is uniquely placed to offer RealLinks, a product that will assist your Trust in meeting national requirements for Pathology EDI. That's not all: RealLinks is a flexible product which can enable seamless data communication between a whole variety of data sources and recipient systems - such as extracting radiology results or feeding data to a contracting system.

Using EDI for Pathology, Radiology and other business activities significantly reduces delivery time and the possibility of transcription errors, whilst at the same time providing enhanced security when compared to paper or faxed reports - all of which are key factors to GPs as customers of Trusts.

Reality staff have worked on a number of National NHS projects regarding EDI and the implementation of NHS EDI standards, such as the GP/Provider Links Project and, more recently, the NHSIA's Pathology Messaging Enabler Project. Our extensive background of EDI in the NHS is reflected in the functionality and flexibility of RealLinks.

RealLinks is already being used in conjunction with the EDS SWiftLab Pathology system and the Radiology system by McKesson. New interfaces to other systems can be developed quickly and easily. Potential situations in which our flexible RealLinks system could be used are many and varied, as our current installations show.

It is most commonly used to feed an EDI Management system so that Pathology and Radiology results can be sent to GP Practices. The same data is also used to feed other Trust based systems, such as contracting systems. It forms the core of a system that one Trust uses to feed Pathology results to a Web based Browser enquiry facility. Other Trusts use a specialised version of it [RealLinks (Renal)] as an interface between the PROTON Renal System supplied by CCL, and the EDS SWiftLab System. With your imagination and our expertise we could, together, solve some of your interfacing problems by adding to this list.

RealLinks is written in the M-Technology programming language (MUMPS), a widely used programming language for medical systems. This means not only that it can run on a wide range of hardware platforms, including PCs, Unix systems and VMS, but that it can easily integrate with your existing pathology, radiology and other departmental systems.

Seamless installation

RealLinks can be installed with minimal impact on your existing systems. For example, no changes are required to the EDS SWiftLab System, and a simple parameter change is all that's required in the McKesson Radiology system so that RealLinks can interface to it.

Flexible

RealLinks already interfaces to the EDS SWiftLab System and the McKesson Radiology System. Further interfaces to other systems can be developed quickly and easily. RealLinks can produce output files in a proprietary format or in a Health Level 7 (HL7) format. Again other formats could be developed easily. If multiple copies of the same data are required in different formats and in different locations, RealLinks easily manages that too.

Simple to use

Once installed RealLinks runs quietly as a background process requiring minimal user intervention. RealLinks has a simple menu system to select the tasks you need and offers a system of access levels enabling each user to have their own password. You can customise the system so that people using it only have access to the functions they need.

Fully supported

RealLinks is fully supported. Our support contracts offer a four-hour response time, where a consultant will connect to your system to investigate and fix any problems.

Evolving

Enhancements - RealLinks is regularly enhanced to meet the changing needs of its users. Its flexible design means that the requirements of individual user sites can be incorporated readily.

Documentation

RealLinks has a comprehensive user manual in web browser format (HTML), so your documentation is easy to use and always up to date.
