Reality could be the answer to your ‘M Technology’ (formerly MUMPS) training needs.

Our aim at Reality – as programmers and application supporters – is to produce M Technology code that balances efficiency with ease of readability and maintenance. As course tutors we make sure that your trainees learn the fundamentals of good programming style, and not just the nuts and bolts of M Technology syntax. Our course tutors’ aim is that everyone completes a course having understood everything that was covered, and feeling confident and ready to take their new skills straight back to the workplace.

Each of the two courses we offer run for three days, and are for a maximum of eight delegates. We’ll normally deliver courses at your own premises, and at a time convenient to you – so you can forget the hassle of trying to find a course that’s running when you can spare the people you want to send on it. The great majority of our courses have the unconventional but highly successful distinction of providing two tutors, who work together in close harmony throughout the course, ensuring that all material is delivered in a lively and stimulating way.

Introduction to M

Whether you’re a supplier of M Technology applications, or belong to a department with a need to maintain or update them, our Introduction to M course enables you to give a flying start to new recruits with no previous knowledge of the language. A combination of slides, discussions and – most importantly – worked examples with lots of practical, hands-on experience, are used to introduce the basics of M Technology and examine the concepts and techniques needed to program effectively. By the end of the course, delegates will be able to program in M Technology, and will have gained an appreciation of M Technology data structures and database design concepts.

Advanced M Workshop

Or maybe you have programmers who’ve already grasped the basics of the language, but need help with broader aspects of programming work. The Advanced M Workshop was designed with such people in mind. It concentrates on key aspects of application building and good database design, and also introduces some of the less frequented but often useful features of the language, as well as exploring the more advanced technical skills, such as error trapping techniques and the use of database management tools.

This course was designed to be more flexible than the Introduction to M - if required we’re happy to tailor it to the specific needs of your organisation, or the individuals who will be attending. Delegates are welcome to bring along current work assignments for advice on specific problem areas; or they might benefit from some general pointers on how to tackle new assignments.

Don’t forget that if you’ve moved on to Caché, your programmers will still need a good command of M Technology for creation of Object Script, so one of our courses may be a great idea for them too!
