Renal; patientRealLinks(Renal) is a specialised implementation of RealLinks that warrants a few words of its own. Pathology results are a significant part of successfully managing the care and treatment of Renal patients. RealLinks(Renal) provides pathology results for all your Renal patients directly to your Renal system on a real time basis. Using an EDI interface between your Pathology and Renal systems significantly reduces delivery time of results and the possibility of transcription errors, and has the added benefit of freeing up valuable staff time that was previously spent re-keying results into the Renal system.

RealLinks(Renal) is already being used in conjunction with the EDS SWiftLab Pathology system and the PROTON Renal system, supplied by CCL. New interfaces to other systems can be developed quickly and easily.

RealLinks(Renal) is written in the M-Technology programming language (MUMPS), a widely used programming language for medical systems. This means not only that it can run on a wide range of hardware platforms, including PCs, Unix systems and VMS, but that it can easily integrate with your existing Pathology and Renal systems.

Seamless installation

RealLinks(Renal) can be installed with minimal impact on your existing systems. For example, no changes are required to the EDS SWiftLab system, and setting up a few simple Quarks is all that's required in the PROTON Renal system so that RealLinks(Renal) can interface to it.

Flexible

RealLinks(Renal) can be set up to extract only those results from the Pathology database that are meaningful to managing a patient's Renal care and treatment - from Haematology, Biochemistry, Histology, or whichever pathology discipline is appropriate.

Remote installations

Even if the Renal system used by your hospital is installed in a different hospital to the Pathology system, RealLinks(Renal) can still be set up to provide an interface between the two. For example, RealLinks(Renal) is already being used to interface two installations of the EDS SWiftLab system in two different Trusts which share an installation of the PROTON system running at one of the Trusts, which receives frequent updates from the second system using an FTP process to transmit data via N3.

Simple to use

Once installed RealLinks(Renal) runs quietly as a background process requiring minimal user intervention. RealLinks(Renal) has a simple menu system to select the tasks you need and offers a system of access levels enabling each user to have their own password. You can customise the system so that people using it only have access to the functions they need.

Maximum automation

Once installed and running, most of the tasks necessary for the interface happen automatically - transferring patient records from the Renal system; matching those records against the Pathology system; extracting the results for matched patients; and returning the results to the Renal system. The only task requiring regular user input is the confirmation of partial patient record matches - where a Renal patient record exactly matches more than one Pathology patient record, or one of the data items selected for matching (such as patient number, name or date of birth) is not exactly the same on both databases, the user must manually confirm the match.

Fully supported

RealLinks(Renal) is fully supported. Our support contracts offer a four-hour response time, where a consultant will connect to your system to investigate and fix any problems.

Evolving

Enhancements - RealLinks(Renal) is regularly enhanced to meet the changing needs of its users. Its flexible design means that the requirements of individual user sites can be incorporated readily.

Documentation

RealLinks(Renal) has a comprehensive user manual.
